Birth of a new religion

AT THE CENTRE of every religion there is the vision of one who has seen all there is to see, a majestic realisation whose fundamental nature remains the same in every age and in every place, but can never truly be put into words. The mystic does his best to convey some sense of it to those attracted by his radiance. 

But they, inevitably, understand and interpret his words in accordance with their own particular mind patterns and, before long, comes spiralling out from that pure core of truth, a great vortex of words, words that form into concepts and rituals and rules and dogma. Coloured by the minds of their authors, and pushed out of step with each other by the gathering speed of the vortex, these versions of the original vision soon harden into conflicting schisms and sects, unable to see eye to eye on anything.

’Twas ever thus and so it ever will be. So, if you want a real taste of the truth, find a living embodiment of it.
